Packing a bag? Let AI make the checklist

Tip

Most of us have arrived somewhere and realised the charger, the medication or the umbrella is still on the kitchen table. A chatbot such as ChatGPT or Gemini can make you a checklist built around your trip, not a generic one.

Open ChatGPT or Gemini and write something like:

"I am going to Lisbon for 4 nights in late October with my husband. We will walk a lot and have one nice dinner out. Make me a packing checklist grouped by clothes, toiletries, documents and chargers, and keep it short."

Change the details to match your trip: where, how many nights, who is coming, and what you will be doing. Then add a follow-up if you like: "I only have a carry-on bag, what can I leave out?" or "Add things for a toddler." Tick items off on your phone as you pack.

One thing to watch: The chatbot may not know the real weather for your dates, so check the forecast yourself and tell it. Documents, tickets and medication are the things you cannot buy on arrival, so double-check those against your own booking confirmations.

Next trip, spend half a minute on the list before you start packing. It is the cheapest way to avoid a forgotten charger.
